One clear role of the artist is to reveal the magic of an element taken from the rest of the World, to isolate and transform it and then give it back to the viewer. It might be holy visions of God's minions working for the humanity's welfare, the peculiar reflection of the light on a water lilies' pond or the immediate visual appeal of a can of soup. Each artist tries to show us what we no longer see or what we never even imagined. Each artist tries to seize the beauty of an instant, the horror of a vision, may they be offered to everybody's view or privately dreamed and conceived.
Furthermore, the sampling culture, far older than the digital age, has created a second layer in this process. A contextual layer, a discourse on the discourse, a comment on another artist's vision. It is a vivid sign of the mental health of the society not to forget the past but to want to go further at the same time, whether through the use of ready- mades in an art space or the sampling of music to the end of the creation of another musical work.
threeframes.net fulfils this double task of pointing out to things and recycling them at the same time. This website gathers very short loops sampled in various films: three frames put together by the contributors in an animated GIF file, an eighth of a second which creates, based on a pre-existing artistic universe, a new moment of poetry.
