At an opening party of a top of the line bookstore in Berlin the following situation unfolded. Walls covered with bookshelves, bursting with art, architecture and philosophy fresh from the print house, not to mention a plethora of innovative subjects mixed like cocktails and baptized through charming neologisms. The DJ supported the wall-to-wall this-is-so-now-feeling with spicy beats and samples from tomorrow. Mårten Spångberg is performance related artist living and working in Stockholm. His interests concerns choreography in an expanded field, something that he has approached through experimental practices and creative process in multiplicity of formats and expressions. He has been active on stage as performer and creator since 1994. With the architect Tor Lindstrand he initiated International Festival, an interdisciplinary practice merging architecture and choreography/performance, thus understanding choreography as a means of organizing time and space. From 1996 – 2005 Spångberg organized and curated festivals in Sweden and internationally. He has thorough experience in teaching both theory and practice and is since 2008 director for the MA program in choreography at the Univ. College of Dance in Stockholm.
